‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ Promises Keanu Reeves Will Destroy Everyone

John Wick came out of nowhere to become an action cult hit, and Lionsgate now understands the remarkable series they have on their hands. In John Wick 2, Keanu Reeves reprises his titular role as famous hitman John Wick and is pressured out of retirement once again when a former associate plots to take control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild.

Generally, it is an reason for Wick to destroy plenty and many of people in cool and stylish ways, and I am more thrilled for the follow up now that I know what to anticipate. The original was a little overhyped (not the mistake of the film, but of people who were naturally thrilled by well-made action cinema), but now that expectations are in check, it looks like John Wick 2 will be a overall blast. To be reasonable, Keanu Reeves has only been in one good sequel (Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey), but I would like it if he had a healthy, continuous series, and John Wick could be just the ticket.

Lionsgate has launched a new TV spot for the movie, and what is encouraging is that even though this is clearly an R-rated movie, you do not have to show gore to demonstrate that director Chad Stahelski has clearly upped his game for the follow up.

I never get tired about discussing about how much I really like John Wick, and fortunately there is a new couple of promotion video clips to give me an reason to do just that. Keanu Reeves‘ greatest gun-slinging badass returns in John Wick: Chapter 2, and everything we have seen so far teases the best kind of action follow up — one that is bigger, richer, and respects the world the 1st film built. John Wick is a unusual treat in that it is an action movie handled with the kind of world-building usually reserved for fantasy and sci-fi, so it will be fun to watch what returning director Chad Stahelski does with that world and its dangerous population now that Wick is going worldwide.

The wait is almost over, but for now we have got two new video clip to tide us over until then. 1st up is a video, presenting where John Wick’s sartorial expertise meets his strategic elegance. Keep it to John Wick to make a tailoring period badass. Lionsgate has also launched a behind-the-scenes featurette presenting Reeve’s stunt training for the film, which is comprehensive, and as you might imagine, gun heavy. The video breaks down the recipe for what Stahelski calls “Gun Fu” — a combination of Japanese jiu jitsu, Brazillian jiu jitsu, 3-gun, and standing judo. And Reeves sells it all. Sure, we all love to enjoy Wick’s inhuman badassery, but it is easy to ignore how amazing Reeves is in the role. The film, the strength of it’s style, and the bananas action sequences do not work without an actor who can pull off in-camera stunts that are absolutely effective. The hype train for John Wick: Chapter 2 is collecting up steam after the end of the week introduced the appearance of the 1st official trailer for the upcoming action follow up. Establishing Keanu Reeves‘ cutthroat assassin against newcomers like Common (who will play another expert killer-for-hire), Ruby Rose and Laurence Fishburne along with coming back cast like Ian McShane, so far, John Wick 2 looks to be shaping up rather swimmingly. Director Chad Stahelski, who previously worked with Fishburne and Reeves on the Matrix trilogy as a stunt coordinator, is no unfamiliar to sequels, but with normally high expectations and an intense connection to the original film, he no doubt is committed to making the follow up as high-octane as the first.

“The studio has asked us to put our heads together and see if we can come up with something. Winston’s [McShane] is a big part of the next one, so is Lance Reddick. We’ve got some ideas.”

Reddick and McShane, both stylish, consisting men of the Continental, have yet to get in on any serious action in the series, as they have stayed mostly on the sidelines. “Winston is busy running the hotel!” McShane described with a good laugh during this weekend’s New York Comic-Con board.

But before John Wick 3 takes off, we have got John Wick 2 on the horizon. So what can we anticipate from the upcoming sequel? Just because it is been a while since we have seen John Wick does not mean much time has passed in the world of the killer with a heart of gold.
“When it came to coming up with a story idea, we had like ten bad ideas, and they we were like, ‘f**k it,’ what would have just happened the next day. Once we stopped worrying about ourselves, it was fun. Is it as good as the first one? I don’t know, that’s personal opinion. Did we go better in some ways? Yes. Did we explore the character more? Yes. It’s better, I think, technically. Is the enjoyment better? Yes, it’s there, but it’s completely different.”
Ruby Rose, who had the Internet buzzing after her appearance on Orange is the New Black last year, has quickly converted to action, set to appear in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and John Wick: Chapter 2 all in the coming year. Discussing on her personality, Stahelski revealed:
“I don’t know if she was expecting Wick to be as kooky as it really is, but she’s mute in the movie, she does the whole thing in sign language. She was nervous for the first couple days, and then she just went for it.”
